Finally! A Sustainable Toilet Paper...called Who Gives A Crap

This post is sponsored by Who Gives A Crap. All thoughts are my own.

When we started reducing waste at home, one surprising struggle was finding a better, more environmentally conscious toilet paper. It's kind of funny how many options there are. Single ply, quilted, triple roll, extra strength, lint factor, fragrance (?!), the list goes on. Unfortunately the majority of these companies never address the ecological aspect, using virgin wood for something that's literally being flushed down the drain.

We previously purchased toilet paper in bulk that had six rolls wrapped in plastic, then all 48 rolls plastic wrapped together. Yeah, a lot of plastic, but toilet paper is one of those things that I seriously loathe buying, so the less often I had to do it, the better.

So when Who Gives A Crap reached out asking if I'd like to try their toilet paper, I was hopeful that this would end my TP struggles. First off, they are delivered straight to your door. No more annoying trips to the warehouse supply store! Second, their products are completely tree free and come in either 100% post consumer recycled paper or bamboo. Lastly, a whopping 50% of their profits are donated to help build toilets in developing countries. Did you know roughly 40% of the population doesn't have access to a toilet? According to Wateraid, one of Who Gives A Crap's charity partners:

"2.3 billion people don't have a decent toilet of their own..."
and
"844 million people don’t have clean water close to home..."

How does it work? As I mentioned earlier, the toilet paper is delivered straight to your door. You can purchase a box of 24 or 48 rolls. Even though we live in a small 500 square foot apartment (with 2 adults and 3 cats!), I would go for 48. I mean, you know you're gonna use them eventually. We keep a handful of rolls in the bathroom and store the rest in the linen closet. If you're really low on space, you can split it with a friend and save some money.

My order arrived in a timely manner (it's shipped from a warehouse in CA) and was thoughtfully packaged. The rolls are snugly packed into an appropriately sized box. There was no unnecessary filler or flyers inside, and the only trace of plastic were the two strips of tape to seal it shut.

Each roll is individually wrapped in paper printed in a variety of cheerful designs, which I'll be keeping for wrapping small gifts or using as box filler. While to me, it doesn't seem to make sense to be individually wrapped, according to Who Gives A Crap, they weighed it all up and this was best option both environmentally and economically. Most importantly, the wrappers are needed to keep each roll sanitary.

The toilet paper itself is triple ply and quite soft and sturdy for 100% recycled content. I was very pleasantly surprised by the feel. You know how some eco friendly things feel and look, well, eco friendly? This toilet paper can stand up against traditional brands just fine.

Here is a short review from a male perspective, my husband, Gary:

"This is way better than any other recycled toilet paper I've ever used. It's strong but not rough, and I don't have to worry about my fingers ripping through the paper!"

One of my favorite things about Who Gives A Crap toilet paper is that when you're at the end of the roll, it completely comes off the roll! No more stragglers that stick to the inner cardboard. I find this so satisfying as I'm not letting even a single square go to waste. It's also handy if you end up saving the inner cardboard for craft projects
